Cryptographically relevant quantum computers would threaten widely used public-key algorithms including RSA, Diffie–Hellman and elliptic-curve cryptography. Post-quantum cryptography is designed to resist attacks from both classical and quantum computers.
Quantum-vulnerable public-key algorithms support many key-establishment and digital-signature functions used in TLS, VPNs, public key infrastructure, code signing and identity systems. Symmetric algorithms and hash functions are affected differently and should be assessed according to key length, data lifetime and use case.
