Four suspected supporters of the Islamic State (IS) had been arrested at Frankfurt Airport as they entered Germany, the Federal Public Prosecutor General said on Thursday.
The four women, three German nationals and one Moroccan national, allegedly traveled to Syria or Iraq in 2013 or 2014 and joined the terrorist organization IS, according to a statement by the public prosecutor general’s office.
The defendants were suspected of membership in a terrorist organization abroad, the statement said. One woman was also accused of crimes against humanity as well as aiding and abetting crimes against humanity, war crimes, human trafficking, and violations of the weapons law.
The four people will be brought before the Federal Court of Justice (BGH), where the implementation of pre-trial custody would be decided.
