Since the launch of the Pokémon Go app on Apple and Android devices, corporate networks have been at risk of cyber attacks. This is due to the way in which the Pokémon Go app collects data.
The app uses an OAuth Connection. This allows viewing, editing, collection, deletion of anything related to the user’s Google account. It can also send emails, analyse navigation history, and collect personal data alongside geotagging functionality and camera access.
The risk lies in employees using corporate credentials when granting access to Pokémon Go. To read more, click here.
Corporations must apply strict use policies for these types of applications, especially when employees are using their own devices, so as to prevent any misuse of corporate data. NSI is able to apply governance, risk and compliance policies and procedures and assess cyber risk, conduct digital forensic investigations and more to counter the threat.
