A Swedish man has been killed and a woman injured following the detonation of a suspected hand grenade at Varby Gard Subway
At about 11am, the man picked up the bomb from the ground where it allegedly exploded in his hand, police have stated. The man, who was in his late 60s, was rushed to hospital, but was later announced dead, while the woman suffered minor wounds to her face and legs.
Police have speculated that based on the fragments found from the explosion, that it could have been an old hand grenade.
The couple who had cycled into the area had ridden past the device until the man stopped to investigate it further.
A regional police spokesman has stated that they believe the couple were not targeted and that it was not regarded as an act of terrorism.
