Ongoing War between Islamic State Fighters and Filipino Security Forces

Ongoing War between Islamic State Fighters and Filipino Security Forces have left 25 Dead and 5000 trapped

Engagements between Filipino Security forces and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters have killed at least 25 people and trapped a population of 5,000 native individuals within their villages. The Tribal leader and Philippines military have stated that the skirmishes between the two warring parties have been fighting since Christmas Eve 2017 in Southern Philippines.

Air strikes coordinated by the military are still in effect, with the latest array of launches performed on Tuesday the 9th of January. The Districts currently affected have been Datu Unsay, Datu Hoffer and Datu Saudi within the province of Maguindanao.

The 5,000 natives trapped within the province of Maguindanao are facing extreme issues accessing basic needs such as water and food, as the Bangsamoro Fighters have scattered hidden dangers such as IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device) throughout the land in addition to burning indigenous homes.

The Philippine military has since been working to remove the IEDs from the location.

Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters is a group linked to Islamic State Leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and have pledged allegiance to the terrorist group since 2014.
